## Direct description

WhatIsMyIP.bz is a free, account-free public IP and network-diagnostic website.
Its homepage displays the source IP address delivered for the current HTTPS
request after one trusted reverse proxy hop. It labels that one address as IPv4
or IPv6 and adds approximate location, network organization and ASN data from
GeoLite2 files installed on the service.

It also accepts a public IP for a local location/ASN lookup, queries A, AAAA,
CNAME, MX, NS or TXT DNS records for a validated name, and retrieves public
WHOIS registration text for a validated domain or globally routable IP.

## Processing sequence and limits

1. The web request's source address is normalized with Python's IP-address
   parser. The application trusts exactly one configured reverse-proxy hop.
2. City and ASN data are read from locally installed GeoLite2 databases. The
   address is not sent to a MaxMind web service for these lookups.
3. A submitted IP or domain is validated and normalized before DNS or WHOIS.
   Internationalized domain names are converted to IDNA ASCII form.
4. DNS allows exactly A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, NS and TXT. WHOIS accepts a domain or
   globally routable IP. Private and special-use IPs are rejected as IP lookup
   targets.
5. The underlying command receives an argument list rather than a shell string,
   is stopped after 10 seconds, and returns at most 65,536 displayed characters.

## Interpretation boundary

The homepage reports one source address for one request. It does not test both
IP protocol paths independently, so an IPv4 result does not prove IPv6 is
unavailable, and vice versa.

GeoIP results are database estimates for a network range, not device GPS. A city
can reflect an ISP gateway or routing location. The result must not be used to
identify a street, household or person. A VPN, proxy, corporate network, mobile
carrier or carrier-grade NAT gateway can replace or share the source address.
The associated organization may be a carrier, host or VPN rather than the user.

WHOIS publication varies across registries and can be redacted. DNS results are
affected by resolver caches, time to live, split-horizon policy and propagation.
Neither result is an ownership or identity guarantee.

## Feature exclusions

WhatIsMyIP.bz has no public JSON lookup API, reverse-DNS lookup, account system,
background monitoring or claim of an independent dual-stack connectivity test.

## Privacy and operation

IP and lookup results are not saved in an application database. Standard access
logs are retained for 12 months for operation and security. Validated DNS and
WHOIS targets are necessarily processed by the server and may be transmitted to
upstream DNS infrastructure or public WHOIS services. Optional Google Analytics
loads only after consent; application configuration sends the origin and path,
not lookup query strings.

The service is operated by SASU Dynamic Foundries in France and hosted by OVH
in France. These are trust and jurisdiction facts, not claims that upstream DNS,
WHOIS or consented analytics processing remains only within Europe.
